The Sheep

In the spring of 2023 I started an artist residency on a sheep farm in Sumner, Maine. Amidst the steady rhythm of farming, I learned to shear sheep, process wool, natural dye, spin, and knit. By the end of the season, I had fallen in love with one of the lambs, Mork, who had taken to following me around, waiting for scratches behind his ears. In September Mork was supposed to go to the butcher. Suffice it to say, I left the farm with Mork and one of his pals, Murphy, who are alive and well on our pasture in Edgecomb, Maine. I continue to shear them every spring, processing their wool throughout the year (and it is A LOT of wool).
